COMMUNICATIONS
Received a letter from Presbytery about the importance of Missions, and another letter from Presbytery about the
2009 Budget for the Presbytery that explained the workings of the "Per Capita", which is $34.34 per member of our congregation.
PASTOR'S REPORT (Pastor Dottie)
Officiated at a funeral. Made numerous visits to nursing homes, hospitals and homes in Galena,
Dubuque and Rockford, also Elizabeth. Attended meetings in Galena, and one consultation in Galena. Attended the Presbytery Meeting in Aurora and two small group studies. I ask all to spend time in
prayer for the candidates. I attend Lectionary on Wednesdays, Rotary on Fridays and all Bible Studies. I provided a letter for Choices concerning Domestic Violence Awareness Month to use in a mailing
to churches. I completed working on an ad-hoc committee that was commissioned in the county to assess the needs of the county and the focus of the health department, called "I Plan". I enjoyed five days of
vacation joyfully visiting with family and friends. The presbytery Meeting and Study will be November 9th and 10th at Stronghold.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION (Ken Parrott)
Youth Sunday School started again in September. Pastor Dottie had youth and teacher recognition the first Sunday in September. Bible Studies are continuing.
WORSHIP (Ken Parrott)
Holy Communion was served on September 7th and on World Wide Communion Sunday October 5th. A potluck followed the October 5th service and a dedication of the kitchen renovation and installation of the beautiful stained glass above the partition doors in the fellowship hall was celebrated. The stained glass is a memorial to Margaret Marcure by the Marcure family. November 19th is the date sent for
Longboards. We will soon be entering the season of Advent. November 30th is the first Sunday of the Advent season. The Worship Committee has ordered material for Advent. The Worship Committee is scheduled to meet again on October 22nd. Ladies Circle meets the second Thursday of the month.
STEWARDSHIP (Ty Cocagne)
Ty will begin the Stewardship Pledging Campaign on Sunday, October 26th continuing on November 2nd and 9th.
OUTREACH (David Marcure)
The annual Crop Walk is Sunday, October 12th. The "Baby Kits" program is being planned.
SERVICE (Milt Mitchell)
A motion sensor light has been installed above the kitchen door. I have installed new sandpaper strips on
the handicapped ramp on the stairs to the parking lot. The steeple has been cleaned and painted. Its appearance is much improved. I am working on a best method of stabilizing the front outside church
doors. We need a new church cleaning person. Money was given by Marlene and Richard Grunert, the Grube family and Helen Kilgore for the new microwave oven. The Meusel's have been asked to place
dirt on the west side of the church to help prevent flooding of the basement. The carpet will be cleaned after the Chili Supper.
FELLOWSHIP AND MEMORIALS (Sharon Panico)
The tables for the potluck on October 5 were again beautifully prepared.
The Chili Supper is Saturday, November 1 serving starts at 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Check with Sharon if you can help and/or donate.
CEMETERY COMMITTEE (Russel Deliberto)
The following is a repeat of the report at the Session Meeting of Sept. 2nd, 2008, and is to be
repeated in the Newsletters of October, November, December and January:
Jack Elrick has contacted local cemeteries as to their prices for lots, all of them higher than ours. At present,
church members pay $100 per lot, non-members pay $200 per lot. The Cemetery Committee is proposing the following: (subject to Congregational approval at the Annual Congregational/Corporation Meeting in
January, 2009):
$150.00 for Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church members. $250.00 for "Fellowship persons – who attend our
church regularly and are known as "week-enders"; or are full-time regular attenders – but are not members, now known as "Friends of the Church".
$1,000.00 for non-members not affiliated with us. Refusal of a request is yet to be determined as to
how and why.
The above announcement will be published in the September, October, November, December and January
Newsletters. Lots can still be purchased at the present prices up to the vote (if passed) in January, 2009.
